The bookBiomass Fractionation Technologies for a Lignocellulosic Feedstock-based Biorefinery edited by Professor Solange I. Mussatto, is an indispensable reference for all professionals, students, and workers involved in biomass biorefinery and will assist them in establishing efficient and economically viable process technologies for biomass fractionation. Presented in 26 chapters, this book comprises the most important topics related to biomass fractionation, including advances, challenges, and perspectives for each fractionation technique; reviews the numerous valuable products that can be produced from lignocellulose; discusses integration of processes for complete biomass conversion, and identifies the research gaps in scale-up.

Professor Solange I. Mussatto’s research covers the use of chemical, physicochemical and biological methods- for biomass pretreatment and hydrolysis; biomass conversion by fermentation or chemical routes into compounds of- interest- including fuels, chemicals, bioactive compounds, materials and enzymes; and techno-economic evaluation of the- processes for the development of a competitive and sustainable biobased economy. She has been on the advisory board- of several leading international scientific journals and international funding agencies. She published over 380 titles in peer-reviewed journals, books, patents, and conferences proceedings. Furthermore, she has received many international- awards, including the “25 Best Inventions of the Year 2013” (Time magazine, US).
