On the eve of the 2022 United Nations Climate Change Conference or Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC, more commonly referred to as COP27, in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, and following the release of the 2022 report of the “Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate change” in October 2022, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO) stated that “the Lancet Countdown Report shows that the health impacts of Climate Change are increasing. This is a sobering reminder of how much further we still have to go”, emphasizing on the WHO`s supports for the call for a fossil fuel non-proliferation treaty and the need to break the addiction to fossil fuels. A similar reaction was made by the Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, stressing that “the climate crisis is killing us” and that “COP27 must deliver a down-payment on climate solutions that match the scale of the problem”. Concluding its ninth year of publication, the frontpage cover art of the December 2022 Issue of Biofuel Research Journal, which includes cutting-edge research articles on various aspects of biofuels and bioproducts, portrays the importance of a swift transition from a fossil-based economy to a bio-economy encompassing alternative energy carriers and bioproducts to ensure a thriving future for the generations to come.
